The good news and the bad news

Our computer crashed on us this week. Of course it did. Just like our fridge that was supposedly fixed also died this week. Oh, and remember that pedestrian I hit in the Jack in the Box parking lot? The one who was ruled at fault? Yeah, he is suing me.

But I do have some good news. We finally received our insurance check! And our contractor says they will start "demolition" (his words, not mine) on Monday. I have my fingers crossed that I will have my home back by my birthday.

We moved into an apartment this weekend. A lovely two bedroom paid for and furnished by our insurance company. I like being away from the concrete and the clutter and the smell. Apartments are nice. When things break, you are not responsible for fixing them. And if a hurricane takes your roof? Not your problem. And if old men sue you? Well, I guess apartments don't solve everything.

Completely random things about Ellie

Ellie ate five (5) turkey dogs for dinner tonight. If there were a toddler hot dog eating contest, she would totally win.

If Ellie doesn't know the name of something, she will refer to it by color. Like, "Want more Green" or "Give me Blue." This applies to food, toys, or any other colored object.

Right now, Ellie is running around the house completely nude from the waist down, a shirt and a jacket on with the jacket zipped all the way up and the hood pulled over her head, and she has stickers all over her face. She slipped out the back door looking like this to go play with the dog. I only hope the neighbors didn't glance over the fence before I had a chance to wrangle her back inside.

She is using the potty like a rock star. Well, rock stars probably have quite a few drunken accidents so maybe that isn't the best analogy. Let's just say she is doing great.

Ellie is always asking Tom and I to draw a manatee for her. We would find that strange, but she usually follows it up by asking us to draw Diego riding the manatee. She loves sea-themed shows like any Dora or Diego that involves an underwater adventures. The only two Disney movies that she will watch are Finding Nemo and Little Mermaid. She also loves SpongeBob Squarepants. Oddly enough, she is also into Dragon Tales even though it takes place on dry land. She will borrow my lanyard, put it around her neck, and say "I wish, I wish with all my heart..."

One minute, she will be driving me completely insane with her whining and her temper tantrums, and the next minute she will have me completely melting with her sweet smile and funny sense of humor. What an age.

The Block

Last night, I went to the New Kids on the Block concert! Yes, I know I should be embarrassed to admit it, but whatever, I have been looking forward to their concert since July when Tom surprised me with the tickets.
Tom and I arrived early so that I could buy a ridiculously overpriced concert tee. The line for the shirts was the craziest line I have ever waited in! We waited in that line for just over an hour. Luckily, I had lots to keep me entertained. All of the concert goers seemed to be females between the ages of 27-37. Groups of giggling women all decked out in early 90s style. It was awesome.
Tom was one of the few men in attendance. He had all sorts of crazy experiences. First, one of the drunk girls behind us in the t-shirt line grabbed his butt. I gave a dirty look, but didn't really want to start anything since I had been waiting in that line for so long and I was so close to getting my shirt! I purchased my shirt just in time to catch the very end of Natasha Bedingfield's opening act. Tom and I decided to make a run for the bathrooms before NKOTB came on. The line for the girls' restroom was insane. I briefly contemplated following Tom into the empty men's room, but reluctantly went to stand in long line for the girls. This brings us to Tom's second crazy experience. While he was peeing, a group of 6 girls walked into the bathroom! He was all, "Um, this is the MEN'S room." The just shrugged and said, "So?"

The concert was so fun! Everyone was on their feet, dancing and singing along. Tom, of course, just sat in his chair and shook his head at how all these women were instantly turned into screaming 12 years olds. I didn't care, it was nice to take a break from being a grown up for the night.
Halfway through the show, Tom decided to take another bathroom break. On his way back. an usher stopped him and asked him if he was with three women. He said no, just my wife. She said she was looking for three women to take down to the floor because they had some space by the stage. Tom asked if we could go down, but she said that it had to be three women who were really into the show. I think Tom was secretly relieved not to have to go. Instead, the three girls behind us were taken down to the floor. As you can see from the video, we were pretty high up, so those floor seats would have been a dramatic improvement.

I will admit, the music was cheesy and Jordan sounded a little screechy (or as Randy would say, "pitchy") trying to hit the high notes of his boyhood songs, but none of it mattered. It was just so much fun getting out for the night and acting like a 12 year old instead of a boring old teacher/mom/wife.

I am not funny

We all went out to dinner last night and as we were driving home, we hear Ellie announce from her carseat, "Daddy's funny." She laughed and said it again. Tom turned around and said, "Is Mommy funny?" "No," she said.

Then, last night as we were putting her to bed, I asked her if Daddy was funny. She promptly said yes and started giggling. Then I asked if I was funny. No. I always suspected as much.

You know who is funny? Our dog. She is so weird. Ever since she was a tiny pup, she has been doing the same tricks/commands...sit, shake, lie down, roll over. Except now, all of a sudden, she starts howling like mad when we get to the roll over part. Every time. Take a look.

Sunday Best: Pigtail edition

When I cut Ellie's hair into a bob, I was so sad about the losing the ability to put her hair in pigtails. I freaking love pigtails. So, I was really happy to discover that her hair has finally grown long enough to attempt the pigtails once again. Cheeeeeese.

I wish I could think of a clever title

So I called my mom yesterday bragging about how Ellie is pretty much full potty trained. She went the whole week at school without any accidents (with the exception of the first day) and was even going poo in the potty. And she made it through a whole weekend with us at home, just running into the bathroom on her own because you know I won't remember to ask her if she needs to go. So, yeah, I was all, "This potty training thing is so easy!" Um, yeah, she went through two extra pairs of pants at school today. Maybe I won't throw out those diapers just yet.

As for the house, well, we got a new roof. It is all wavy and crappy looking, but I have been told it smooths out over time. Also, they forgot to put the ridge vents on even though it was on the contract. These are the same people that will be doing our interior so we are a bit nervous. Of course, they won't actually start our interior because they haven't been paid. We did finally get our check from insurance, but we have to hand it over to our mortgage company (along with a mountain of forms) and patiently wait for them to dole it out to us in ridiculously small increments. Good times.

Weekend recap

We spent most of our weekend outdoors. And not just because our house is in shambles, but also because the weather was amazing. Friday night we attended the cross country meet. Look at Kolby's cute shirt. It says "Lil Coach." I am going to make one for Ellie, but I can't decide what to put on it. Coach's Kid? Future Runner? XC? I would love some suggestions.
On Saturday we went to the dog park and this time Rosie and the girls joined us! They brought their Great Dane, Reshenka. The dogs had a great time, but I still think the kids had a better time.
How cute are they?
And now for my Sunday Best picture.Since today was General Conference, we were able to forgo the dresses (and apparently pants) and enjoy church from the comfort of our couch. Niiiice.
