Yesterday was Tom's birthday. Since it was a Sunday, we had to get up early for church, but I still made chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, and bacon. Tom didn't eat any, but the kids and I sure enjoyed his birthday breakfast! In the evening, Ellie wanted to make dinner in honor of Tom's birthday so she made her own version of pigs in a blanket - birthday balloon style. Again, Tom didn't eat them (neither did I), but the kids assured us they were delicious. We also had key lime pie - Tom's favorite and he did eat some of that!

Best in Breed
Tom has been so busy the last couple weeks with practices, conferences, and summer school. I decided to take advantage of a Saturday with him home and go to the Houston World Series of Dog Shows.
Our favorite parts of it were Meet the Breeds, Flyball, and Sled Pulling. I only took pictures of Meet the Breeds, though. I probably could have stayed all day, but the kids were done after two hours, especially Sam. Sigh. It is so hard to find fun, family-friendly, indoor activities that will keep everyone entertained.

Resort Life
Ever since I got back from our cruise, I have been itching to get away again. I just do not want to be home, surrounded by things needing to be done. So, when a friend mentioned that she takes her boys to a resort only an hour away and that Living Social usually has killer deals for it, I knew that was for me. I recruited Sabrina and Dianna to join me and the three of us (and Sabrina's mom) took the kids for a one-night stay at La Torretta resort.
We got off to a rocky start with the youngest cousins getting trapped in the elevator and me panicking and screaming, "I'll come get you!" Not my finest moment. Luckily, Sabrina and her cool head were there to save the day, but a maintenance man did have to fix the elevator that we broke.
Other than that little incident, we had a great time. The kids loved the water slides, the aqua park, and the lazy river, but what they loved the most was the lake. Ugh, I prefer chlorine and shaded areas seating areas, but the kids wanted dirty water and sand.
It was fun, but not at all relaxing because trying to keep track of kids in water is always stressful. But all the kids had a blast and that is what counts the most, right?

Happy 4th!
It is almost 11 and we just put the kids to bed. This is the latest Sam has stayed up in his short life.
We started out the day by watching our neighborhood's 4th of July parade. It was cute and the candy and trinkets were plentiful.
In the evening, we went out to our good friends' golf course for dinner, fun, and fireworks. We have celebrated many a holiday out there (including Ellie and Sam's last birthday), but they sold it so this was our last hoorah.
Y'all know how I feel about fireworks, but all the cousins and friends had a blast (blast, hee hee).
